How to Know If a Property Listing in Ghana Is Real or Fake

Avoid “Agent Wahala” and Property Scams — Rent or Buy the Safe Way with Keystone

If You’ve Rented in Ghana Before… You Know the Stress
Let’s be honest  almost every Ghanaian has a story about a housing disappointment:
“The agent collected GHS 100 for viewing and never picked up again.”
“I travelled all the way from Kumasi to see a house in Accra, and it was already rented out.”
“My brother in the UK sent money for me to rent a place for our mum, and the place wasn’t even real.”
It’s painful. And it’s more common than we like to admit.
That’s why at Keystone Group, we’ve made it our mission to eliminate the guesswork and protect you from property fraud, shady agents, and empty promises — whether you live in Ghana or abroad.
Here’s how to spot a fake listing  and what makes our process different.

1. “This House Looks Too Nice for That Price…”
When you see a 3-bedroom house in East Legon listed for GHS 1,500, pause and ask: Is this real?
Many fake listings use:
• Photos downloaded from foreign websites
• Edited images that hide faults
• Old listings that are no longer available
At Keystone, every photo you see is from an inspected, available property. We go beyond nice pictures — we show real homes for real budgets.

2. Watch Out for “Urgent” Requests for Money
Fake agents often say:
“Pay now or someone else will take it.”
“Just send transport money so I can show it to you.”
These are pressure tactics that play on your urgency.
Keystone doesn’t charge viewing fees. Our policy is clear: see the place first, understand the terms, then decide. That’s part of our promise of transparency and integrity.

3. No Documents, No Deal
Before you pay for rent or a house, you should ask to see:
• Proof of ownership or landlord agreement
• A proper tenancy or sale agreement
• Any terms and conditions in writing
If the agent can’t provide these — or says “don’t worry, everything is fine” — that’s a red flag.
At Keystone, all listings are backed by documents and landlord authorization. You’ll see and sign a real agreement before any money changes hands.

4.  Don’t Depend on a Cousin or Friend Alone
It’s common for Ghanaians abroad to send money home and ask a cousin or friend to “handle everything.” But sometimes:
• They’re misled by agents too
• They don’t follow up properly
• Or worse, they’re part of the scam
Keystone handles the full process for you, even if you’re in Canada, the UK, or the Gulf. We offer:
• WhatsApp video walkthroughs
• Virtual document signing
• Aftercare and move-in support
You’ll never feel out of the loop, even from miles away.

5. Ask Yourself: “Can I Trace This Agent If Something Goes Wrong?”
Many “street agents” work with no business registration, no office, and no accountability. If things go wrong, you have no one to contact.
Keystone is a registered real estate agency with:
• A physical office
• A professional website
• Customer service before, during, and after the deal
We don’t just disappear after payment.
